It is a biologically active product with a pleasant strong smell and a bitter, spicy taste, which preserves its properties for up to 10 years. Bees collect pitch from the sticky buds and shoots of trees (poplars, birches, etc.) and use it to glue the cracks of the hive, to make honey, to embalm decaying foreign bodies that cannot be removed from the hive, because the pitch does not allow air and moisture to pass through. Due to the same preservative properties, it prevents the spoilage of bee products (eg royal jelly) and the germination of pollen brought into the hive. In addition, bees disinfect the honeycombs with their pitch and protect themselves from diseases.

One family of bees brings 1 g of pitch to the hive per day, and up to 150-200 g per year. Studies show that propolis is able to destroy the RNA of viruses before they enter the cells and stops their reproduction. Its principle of action is quite simple: the wall of the bacterium, part of the cytoplasm is destroyed and protein synthesis is stopped, which means that the bacterium can no longer reproduce.

Bee pitch (propolis) has been used by our elders since time immemorial. It is a natural antibiotic created by bees for many ailments. Pitch also has an antioxidant effect, so it is a real enemy of aging. Research on propolis says:

  • Propolis polyphenols can support optimal intestinal microbiota by inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria.
  • Propolis promotes the growth and regeneration of skin tissues, and also modulates collagen production
  • As a natural compound with good pharmacological and pharmaceutical properties, propolis and its constituents have a wide range of applications, including wound and skin healing.
  • Preclinical data confirm the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of propolis.
